Marks Parks hosted a thrilling cricket match-up of win some, lose some in the Jozi Cup.

In an exciting clash at Emmarentia’s Marks Park, the Thistles hosted Old Eds U18 for a thrilling encounter in the Jozi Cup. Winning the toss, Marks Park Thistles elected to field first, putting Old Eds into bat. The decision proved fruitful as the visitors managed to score 142 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Nathan Roussouw emerged as the star performer for Marks Park, claiming an impressive 3 wickets for just 12 runs in his four overs.

Known for producing high-scoring matches, the bottom wicket at Marks Park set the stage for an enthralling chase. After nine overs, Marks Park Thistles were on track with a solid score of 86 for 2. Moe Bulbulia showcased his batting prowess, stealing the show with a magnificent half-century off just 36 balls. With the aim of securing a bonus point by achieving the target in under 16 overs, the Thistles accelerated their run rate. Unfortunately, they lost a few wickets in the process and fell short of the bonus point by a mere 5 balls. Nonetheless, Marks Park Thistles emerged victorious, reaching the target in 16.5 overs with only 5 wickets down.

In their previous game, the U18 boys from Marks Park Thistles faced a defeat against Renegades CC, also at the bottom field. Despite putting up a commendable score of 195 all out, with Logan Roussouw leading the charge with 35 runs off 23 balls and Armaan Manack contributing a quickfire 25 off 19 balls, Renegades managed to chase down the target in just 15.3 overs.

The U18 team of Marks Park Thistles currently holds a record of 2 wins and 1 loss, positioning them favourably to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Their path to the finals, scheduled for June 16, at the DP World Wanderers Stadium, looks promising, provided they continue to display their cricketing prowess and secure victories in their remaining matches. Cricket enthusiasts and supporters are invited to attend the finals, promising a day filled with exceptional cricket and enjoyable moments under the sun.

Marks Park Thistles have a strong representation in the Diadora Jozi Cup 2024, with a total of 5 teams participating. These include the U16, U18, and two senior teams, along with a veterans’ over 40’s team. The tournament features over 100 teams competing in eight divisions across the province, making it the largest event of its kind in the country.
