Dada Morero takes office as joburg mayor
The African National Congress' Dada Morero returns to lead the City of Joburg as its executive mayor.
Dada Morero has been appointed as the new executive mayor of Johannesburg. His election comes after the resignation of Al Jama-ah’s Kabelo Gwamanda on August 13.
Morero was officially sworn in during the 30th extraordinary council meeting on August 16, held at the Constance Bapela Council Chamber in Braamfontein.

Currently serving as the City’s Finance MMC, Morero is also the regional chair of the ANC in Johannesburg. Notably, he previously held the mayoral position in 2022 but was removed after just 25 days in office.
