The handover took place at the hospital and was attended by various members of the community including Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
CEO of RMMCH Dr Arthur Manning said the day marked a partnership that recognised the joint commitment to advancing health not only for the hospital and its community but for the lives of patients from different provinces and other hospitals. He added the MRI scanner was more than just advanced technology, it symbolised hope for countless individuals and families as early detection and accurate diagnosis were critical.

The hospital also received a generator and three of the hospital’s radiographers are currently in Egypt undergoing advanced training. “We extend our deepest appreciation to FirstRand for their generosity and commitment to this cause. May this be the beginning of a new model, we must continue to work together forging new partnerships and seeking better solutions to the challenges we face,” said Manning.

For Nkomo-Ralehoko, the hospital symbolised the activist Rahima Moosa’s legacy by striving to provide compassionate quality healthcare to mothers and children, “Today as we receive this MRI scanner, we honour her memory by continuing to work and ensure that everyone has access to essential health facilities.”

She added that for years the hospital operated without a scanner which caused delays in diagnosis and treatments, making it harder for health professionals to provide the best care, “Today marks an end to that era of challenges, with this scanner the hospital will enhance its diagnostic services and profile immediate lifesaving care for those who need it the most.”

Gert Kruger, chief risk officer for FirstRand Group said, “Rahima Moosa does so much positive work that helps communities. Today is another milestone in partnership with a variety of organisations.”
