Power system strain – Hursthill customers advised to conserve energy
Hursthill Service Delivery Centre warns of outages; weather conditions may delay repairs. Community urged to assist in safeguarding electrical infrastructure.
In a recent alert issued by the City Power Hursthill Service Delivery Centre (SDC), customers are being warned about a constrained power system. The SDC is currently managing 278 open calls and has 29 plants out of operation.
The power outages are primarily affecting customers in the Hursthill and Industria areas. Specifically, the Hursthill substation, serving the Crosby distributor, is experiencing issues, and the testing team is working to identify a cable fault disrupting the power supply. Repairs will commence once the fault location is determined.
Similarly, outages at the Industria substation, which services parts of Bosmont and Maraisburg, are due to faulty cables. Four load centres servicing Maroela and nearby streets will remain offline until repairs can be completed.
The SDC also cautioned that inclement weather might hinder repair efforts, leading to potential delays in power restoration. Updates on estimated restoration times will follow.

Customers are advised to reduce their electricity usage to help avoid system overload, as load reductions are currently in effect during peak hours 04:30 to 11:00 in the morning and 16:30 to 23:00 in the evening, in energy-intensive areas.
To prevent damage during outages, residents are encouraged to unplug appliances to mitigate the impact of inrush current when power is restored.
City Power calls on the community to work together in safeguarding municipal electrical infrastructure against vandalism, theft, and tampering to limit outages and their repercussions.
Updates will be continuously provided to affected customers.
