City Power urges residents to upgrade prepaid meters as deadline for system change draws near
System overhaul deadline fast approaching for City Power customers.
With less than a week remaining until City Power’s voucher system overhaul, 1 061 customers have yet to upgrade their prepaid meters.
The power utility has achieved over 99.6% compliance in Roodepoort, Randburg, Lenasia and other inner city service delivery areas, while Alexandra stands at 87.15%. To reach customers with unconverted meters, more teams have been sent into all supply areas to conduct meter audits and help customers with the upgrade process.

The new KRN2 meters include security features that alert City Power when a customer tampers with the meter. Any attempts at tempering with the KRN2 meters could lead to immediate power supply disconnection. The upgraded system will also allow for better monitoring and management of electricity usage.

Residents have been warned that failure to convert from the current KRN1 system to the new KRN2 system will lead to power interruptions or disconnections. After November 24, unconverted prepaid meters will no longer be able to load electricity units.
Customers who are unsure of the status of their meters can call City Power’s contact centre for assistance or visit their customer service centres.
