Wandile Billings, a standout striker for the Growing Champions (GC), embodies this ethos. With an impressive tally of 40 goals this season, out of the team’s 57 goals, Billings reflects on the journey that has brought him to this remarkable point.
“First and foremost, I give thanks to God for guiding and protecting me,” Billings expressed. He emphasised the crucial role of the coaching staff, particularly head coach Clive Letshaba, who has been a mentor since childhood. “He has sacrificed so much for us. Tirelessly researching ways to improve our game.”
He also acknowledged Samantha Toweel-Moore, founder of GC and personal and mental development coach, for her commitment to their growth, highlighting her high standards and dedication.

Billings credits his current form to the collective effort of the entire team. “It is not just about me; it is a team effort,” he stated. “Everyone has played a part in helping me grow.” This teamwork has fostered a strong bond among players, leading to their peak performance in the league.
“We are like family, always wanting the best for each other,” Billings noted, recalling how teammates have rallied around him, encouraging his dreams of turning professional. “Our next step is the Johannesburg Men’s Regional League, where we aim to give 150% in every match,” he said passionately.
He believes that true growth comes from pushing beyond comfort zones. “Growing Champions has shaped me into a man who is willing to learn. I’ve learned that a legacy is built by those who support you.” With gratitude in his heart, Billings is determined to rise, no matter how many times he falls, inspiring his teammates and fans alike with every goal he scores.
