Audiences experienced strong influences of Celtic music, through the De La Salle Novice Juvenile Pipe Band, and the De La Salle Grade 3 Pipe Band (current South African Champions within their division). They were also treated to some first-class Highland and Irish dancing, courtesy of the Robinson Dance Studio, which specialises in teaching the two distinct styles.

Josh Hogg, who assists with the band’s management and musical direction, said its important to host such events that showcase the growth of the De La Salle Pipe Band, the commitment of the individual members, and the teamwork that is necessary to achieve the high standards of playing. Adding, it is also important to keep tradition alive, and to expose communities to the unique music, and dance, which comes from Scotland and Ireland, and it’s place in the cultural landscape that encompasses South Africa.
“The Celtic traditions brought to this country by migrants have become part of what people do on a daily basis, and has become another example of a shared passion and interest that people from various walks of life become a part of. There is no exclusivity in the world of pipe bands, and dancing,” said Hogg.
