UJ rowers row fiercely towards the win

UJ Rowing Club teams earn silver and bronze at USSA championships.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Rowing Club showcased significant improvement at the 2025 University Sport South Africa (USSA) Rowing Sprints Regatta Championships in Cape Town, securing silver and bronze medals against 10 competing university teams.

The UJ women’s team performed well, maintaining their 2024 silver medal finish this year. Similarly, the men’s team demonstrated progress, moving up three places from sixth place in 2024 to secure a bronze medal in 2025.

“Our teams performed exceptionally well this year, achieving podium finishes in both the men’s and women’s categories,” said Sizwe Ndlovu, UJ Rowing coach and manager. “This success builds significant confidence as we prepare for the upcoming Boat Race in Port Alfred during the spring season. We are now focusing on refining our techniques and maintaining this momentum.”

Following the USSA Championships, the UJ teams will resume their regular training schedule, incorporating on-water sessions and preparations for local competitions, including the SA Championships in Tshwane and the University Boat Race in Port Alfred.
