25-year-old welcomes baby into the world
First time mother Kedibone Mzimba welcomed her beautiful baby boy, Okhethawho, into the world on May 6 at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.
On average, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital sees about 13 000 babies welcomed into the world, and placed into the nurturing arms of their mothers, per year. This year, a pair of those nurturing arms belonged to first time mother Kedibone Mzimba, who, on May 6, gave birth to her healthy baby boy, Okhethawho.

As we close off Mother’s Day month, Northcliff Melville Times sat down with this confident and capable mother, whose life plans now include being the best mom she can be to her son.
At 25 years old, when she first learned she was pregnant, she was overcome with happiness. “I was happy because I thought I would have had a baby when I was in my teens. But I waited till I was 25,” shared Mzimba. In her community, falling pregnant at a young age is something seen all too often. “But, from an early age, I knew that pregnancy was something I did not want to rush into. Putting importance first on completing my studies and making sure to get what I need first.”

After matriculating, Mzimba studied hospitality, choosing this career path after she realised, through it, she could choose from various job opportunities. The highlight of this being that she could one day own her own company. She aspires to one day have either her own hotel or restaurant.
Her mornings are very different now, waking up mostly earlier than sunrise to tend to her baby. “I wake up now, and just look at him and think: ‘Wow, that’s my child’.” When she looks at him feels her heart fill with nothing but joy. Yet, in the midst of that joy, is also the conviction that she now has someone to, not only give unconditional love to, but also to teach the importance of respecting other people. Mzimba, ultimately, prays she lives long enough to see her child grow and celebrate all his various milestones.
To first time young mothers, like herself, her message is to love yourself, as it’s once you show yourself love, loving your child will come just as easily. “Also, if motherhood is the decision you have taken, then be a good mother who loves their child.”
