Gold Reef Rhythmic Gymnastics Club gymnasts strut their stuff on the international stage

Representing the country at several international competitions, Gold Reef Rhythmic Gymnastics Club gymnasts Jeanne-Marié Kitshoff, Kristen Hannie, and Wothabo Nene are making their club, and country proud.

The talents of Gold Reef Rhythmic Gymnastics Club gymnasts are so worldly, it only makes sense that they end up on international floors, showcasing their prowess, whether it be with the hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon, or rope.

In 2024, junior Olympic rhythmic gymnasts Jeanne-Marié Kitshoff and Kristen Hannie received their Protea colours and represented the country at the 18th Junior and Senior African Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. In March this year, they participated in trials for the 3rd International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. There, they were the top two gymnasts, both qualifying for the junior world championships, which will take place from June 18 to 22.

In February, together with fellow gymnast Wothabo Nene, they competed at the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition Miss Valentine 2025 in Tartu, Estonia. Nene qualified to represent South Africa at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup 2025 Series. In April, she represented the country at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan. She will further represent SA at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Milan, Italy, as well as the FIG World Challenge Cup in Romania in July.

To prepare for international competitions like these, gymnasts train six days a week, four to five hours per day, in an effort to master their various skills. They work in accordance with a finely planned programme, which ensures they peak at the correct time.

The club believes gymnastics is not unlike any other sport, as these sportswomen have to learn to compete. The more competitions they participate in, the better they will know how to approach a competition, in order to have the best outcome possible.
