Beagle Watch expands CCTV and patrols

In response to the rising crime rate in the areas they operate, Beagle Watch is ramping up safety measures with new CCTV cameras and patrols.

In an effort to enhance community safety, Beagle Watch has launched various initiatives aimed at curbing crime spikes in the areas they serve.

Director of Beagle Watch Andre Aiton emphasised the organisation’s commitment to addressing the rising trend of smash-and-grab incidents and other criminal activities. “To this end, Beagle Watch has invested in enhancements to the Vumacam public space overview cameras, located at the corners of Beyers Naudé Drive, Monkor Road, and Wilson Street.”

Aiton highlighted that Beagle Watch has established a comprehensive CCTV system within their operational footprint, supported by two task members specifically assigned to monitor crime hotspots, however, residents are encouraged to take proactive measures to protect themselves. Aiton advised that individuals should invest in their own security and remain vigilant at all times. He noted that the surge in crime in these areas can be attributed to the high levels of unemployment in South Africa, which has created an environment conducive to criminal activity.

The initiatives implemented by Beagle Watch are designed to benefit the community by increasing safety through enhanced visibility in crime-prone areas. “We have installed three additional overview CCTV cameras, which are monitored by our dedicated CCTV desk in our call centre,” Aiton explained. He added that their experience shows that CCTV cameras are effective in identifying and tracking down criminals, serving as a strong deterrent against crime.

In addition to the CCTV enhancements, Beagle Watch has introduced high visibility initiatives, including a specialised surveillance unit, which operates at various times throughout the day and night, increased patrols, and the use of a drone to monitor the area.
