Beagle Watch offers crucial safety tips amidst rise in vehicle theft

This comes after their successful arrest in Fairland, prompting them to urge motorists in taking proactive measures to protect their vehicles.

Following Beagle Watch’s successful arrest of two suspects involved in car theft, found in possession of a signal jammer and various tools used for breaking into vehicles, on August 12, the incident has raised concerns about vehicle theft in the Fairland precinct, prompting Beagle Watch managing director Andre Aiton to address the issue.

Aiton noted that vehicle theft, as well as attempts, have indeed risen significantly, not just in this area but across the region. He emphasised the importance of residents taking proactive measures to protect their vehicles. “Residents should remove valuable items from their cars, ensure they have tracking devices, and be mindful of where they park, especially at night. It’s crucial to choose well-lit areas.”

When asked about the effectiveness of Beagle Watch’s efforts in combating vehicle theft, Aiton revealed that the partnership with VumaCAM has been instrumental. “We have experienced unbelievable success, with nearly three to four arrests each week.” This collaboration has enhanced their ability to track down criminals swiftly.

Aiton also highlighted the strategies Beagle Watch has implemented to improve their response to hijacking incidents. “We have established a camera network, and work closely with the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network (CCIN), and their own internal task team, to monitor and respond to criminal activity more effectively.”

He listed some of the popular cars that are at risk of theft:

  • Toyota Hilux,
  • Toyota Fortuner,
  • Volkswagen T Cross,
  • VW Polo, and
  • Ford Ranger.

He cautioned residents about specific hotspots for hijacking, particularly off-ramps and poorly lit areas, where vehicles are especially vulnerable. Aiton pointed out that cars are particularly at risk during school events and at shopping malls, and urges drivers to remain vigilant in such areas.
