MSI calls for a bright and safe festive season

As Melville switches to holiday mode, MSI’s Danny Nunes leans into a different rhythm: long hours, watchful nights, and a simple wish for a brightly lit, safe community.

As Christmas is fast approaching, operations manager at Melville Security Initiative (MSI) Danny Nunes says this time of year carries a double meaning.

It means rest for the community, and heightened readiness for MSI. “To MSI, the Christmas season is a time where people relax after a hard year’s work, spend time with loved ones, and socialise. It’s also the time of the year where we have to up our game and be ready to protect and serve our community.”

While many look forward to gatherings and quiet moments, Nunes’ festive rhythm is shaped around duty. “The MSI is often called on during the festive season, and I remain on active duty throughout the period, opting to take off and rest in the new year.”

Since joining MSI, his New Year’s Eve has never been spent anywhere but on the ground. “I’ve worked every New Year’s Eve and been in the area monitoring, especially 7th Street.” Even so, he still finds a way to bring some warmth to the day by enjoying a lunch and making meals for MSI response officers on duty.

His favourite Christmas tradition remains simple and personal. “Seeing family and spending some hours with them.”

Nunes used the moment to share a message with the community. “Travel safe, enjoy your well-deserved holidays, and thank you to all the Beagle Watch MSI, directors, managers, staff, and clients for their support and commitment throughout the year.”

As for what he would love to see across Melville this season, the answer is easy. “I’d love to see the community decorate their homes with festive lights.” Although he chose to skip questions about memorable moments and acts of kindness, Nunes’ responses reflect the steady, grounded approach MSI brings to the neighbourhood – present, reliable, and ready during the busiest months of the year.
