Rose Village celebrates milestones and community achievements while overcoming major 2025 challenges

As Rose Village approaches its official 30th celebration, staff and residents reflect on a year filled with connection and courage.

Rose Village in Roosevelt Park has marked a year of memorable milestones, community spirit and unexpected challenges under the leadership of manager Marcia Visser.
Home to 170 residents in 105 privately funded units and 35 rentals, the retirement village continues to serve as a warm and active haven for older adults.

The village celebrated its 30th birthday at the end of 2025, commemorating three decades since the first bricks were laid. The official celebration is set for June 30 2026, a moment eagerly anticipated by residents and staff alike.
One of Rose Village’s biggest achievements of 2025 has been its shift from reliance on municipal water to a borehole system with full purification support from the Methodist Homes Association. This upgrade has ensured residents remain unaffected during municipal water outages, providing much-needed stability and peace of mind.

The year has also been filled with lively events and social gatherings. Residents enjoyed Easter Lunch, Christmas in July, a Halloween Happy Hour, Booklovers Morning, where five residents were revealed to be published authors, as well as quiz mornings, bingo, gentle gym, Pilates, two morning markets and Open Days.

However, 2025 was not without hardship. A severe thunderstorm in March caused significant flooding, affecting 11 units and the lounge and reception area. Staff stepped in to support impacted residents, though major engineering and construction work will still be needed to prevent future flooding.

One staff member who has stood out is Sibongile Mdunge, appointed full-time bookkeeper in April 2024. A mother of four and furthering her studies, she has become an invaluable asset to Rose Village, always willing to assist wherever needed.
