Police recover unknown man from contaminated Melville stream following reported drowning
Brixton SAPS have confirmed that the incident took place, and have opened an inquest docket as investigations continue.
Johannesburg Water policing and diving services divers recovered the body of an unidentified man from a contaminated stream in Melville on August 9.
According to Johannesburg Flying Squad media liaison officer Raymond Sambo, divers were deployed to the scene at the corner of Carlow Road at about 16:30 following a reported drowning.

The man’s body was recovered from the stream and handed over to members of Brixton SAPS at the scene. An inquest docket has been opened and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
Authorities have urged members of the public to take precautions when entering or spending time near open water, including dams and rivers.
Sambo urged parents to educate children about the dangers of open water, and to ensure they are supervised around such areas.
