Words of comfort to fellow Grade 11 learners from Rulene Jonker

Rulene Jonker has some sage advice for learners who may be struggling under the pressures of school.

Rulene Jonker, a Northcliff learner writes some words of encouragement for Grade 11 learners who may be struggling:

One of the most important years of your life is when you are in the 11th grade.
Grade 11s this year are for the first time resurfacing into a normal pre-Covid routine. Because of the lack of experience in a high school setting, children are under immense pressure.

This year, a learner’s high school career was compressed into three years by a common monster known as Covid-19. The learners were thrown into the deep end by being forced to start their senior phase of high school in such a demanding grade.

Numerous aspects have an effect on Grade 11’s mental, physical and spiritual health such as student council elections, achieving satisfactory academic results, and of course being accepted into a prestigious university, to name only a few.

Despite all of these hardships, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Grade 11 also brings the promise of new beginnings. This is typically the time when children start to mature and find themselves. They discover their ambitions in life and meet people they will carry with them for the rest of their journey.

Just know you are not alone. There are so many others out there waiting to stand by you and support you through this difficult phase.

Therefore, don’t be discouraged dear Grade 11s, there is a whole book waiting to be written by you.
