Armed robbers hit Fairland and Bergbron businesses

Businesses hit by armed gunmen fleeing before being intercepted in New Doornfontein.

An armed robbery took place at a well-known supermarket in Fairland last week.

Several suspects arrived in a white bakkie and held up staff members at gunpoint. Cash, phone vouchers and cigarettes were stolen.

Fairland Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas said, “The suspects fled the scene and proceeded to a garage in Bergbron where a cellphone was stolen. They then fled to New Doornfontein near Jeppe where private security managed to intercept them.”

A firearm was recovered and one suspect was arrested and the vehicle was seized. The case will be handled by police trio-task team investigators so that one detective can manage all incidents and identify which goods were stolen from what location.
