LOISE SHUTER: I would like to see the police being in the neighbourhood so we know where they are and they become part of us and are our friends... so the people who shouldn't be within our communities [criminals] will know that the police are present. Police need to be part of us and not these people behind a counter somewhere.
What should the police be seen doing more of?
The Northcliff Melville Times headed to Victory Park to ask residents what they thought our men and women in blue should be seen doing.
Here is what they had to say…
ANTOINETTE SEWARD: I want to see the police be present. Feet on the ground. Travelling around the suburbs and being visible.JACKIE KENNY-ROCHER: Though I see the police on the streets, I feel they targeting softer crimes. They not patrolling to see if people are hijacking or stealing cars, they rather stop someone to check their licence… Someone breaking into our homes and stealing goods is what is important.NOMPUMELELO MLAMBO: It would be great if police were more visible, especially in places where people have reported there is a lot of crime. I also think police visiting schools is important as I think the police have not had the best reputation the last few years and there is even a lack of trust, even among children.
