GEM Homes hosts wonderful fete to celebrate turning 50

Residents and the broader community were treated to a lovely day with live music and gorgeous items for sale which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

GEM Homes for senior citizens in Roosevelt Park turned 50 and to mark the auspicious occasion held a successful fete to raise funds and have a community event for all to enjoy.

GEM, the Gunners, Engineers and Moths opened the village of 83 flats for retired members of the armed forces in 1973 and continues to be a much sought-after venue for retirees in the city.

Head of the council for the homes Spencer Blackbeard said, “Monies raised today will assist with the purchasing of solar lights around the venue and general maintenance and upkeep of the lovely grounds.”

They are supported by several charities like Northcliff Rotary which enables them to offer subsidies to tenants who are unable to pay full rates for their units.
