Resilience pays off for Roosevelt High School football team

Roosevelt High Schools incredible resilience shines through as they fight back to defeat Norkem Park 3–1 in the quarter-finals.

Roosevelt High School secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Johannesburg Boys’ Football League (JBFL) with a decisive 3–1 victory over Norkem Park High School in a closely contested quarter-final match held at Norkem Park last week.

The home team started strong, drawing first blood early in the first half with a well-executed goal. The atmosphere was electric as the local supporters roared in approval, sensing an early advantage.

However, Roosevelt High showed hunger and drive to book their spot in the semi-finals. Not long after Norkem Park’s goal, Roosevelt’s Koketso Mopane delivered a crucial equaliser, bringing the match to a 1–1 deadlock just before half-time. Mopane’s goal was a turning point, boosting the morale of his teammates and setting the stage for an intense second half.

After the break, Roosevelt took control of the game, with Rhulani Modau emerging as the hero of the match. Modau netted two spectacular goals, sealing the victory for Roosevelt. His first goal came from a swift counter-attack, while the second was a powerful strike that left the Norkem Park goalkeeper with no chance.

As the final whistle blew, Roosevelt not only walked away with a 3–1 win that also secured their place in the semi-finals but also demonstrated their strength and potential as a team to watch in the tournament.
