Melissa Davids, a councillor for the Patriotic Alliance, addressed the situation, stating that the demonstration is particularly aimed at injustices faced by the residents of Coronationville, who have endured months without water supply. “We do not have water. They give us empty promises. Today we are fighting for a basic right, and we are denied that basic right,” Davids expressed, emphasising the urgency of the community’s demands.

The protest has caused notable disruptions in the area, leading local authorities to advise motorists to seek alternate routes until the situation is resolved. With frustrations boiling over, community members are calling for immediate action from the city to restore their water supply and address the ongoing service delivery issues.

As the protests unfold, many in the community believe that this demonstration is a critical step in holding authorities accountable for the services they are expected to provide. As tensions continue, local residents remain hopeful that their voices will be heard and that their fundamental needs will finally be acknowledged.

Residents are encouraged to stay away from the affected roads and to keep informed about alternative routes while the protests persist.

Update:

Colonel Andile Moshani stated that the situation is calm and controlled. “The city manager came and addressed them, and JMPD are here.”
