VOX: Residents speak out on City’s IDP and budget plans

Residents weigh in on new tariffs, service delivery, and plans for region B as they engaged on the issues they experience in their own wards, and noted that promises are not being fulfilled in the City of Johannesburg.

Residents from different wards came out in numbers to voice their opinions on the City’s draft 2025/2026 integrated development plan (IDP) and proposed budget. Concerns were raised over proposed tariff increases, service delivery priorities, and the city’s developmental goals.

Here is what residents from different wards had to say at the draft IDP and budget meeting:

Sydney Kgokane (Ward 102): At the IDP meeting, they were talking about tariffs. That is not something that is going to help the residents. What we need is service delivery.
Elaine Holmes (Ward 99): The same issues gets raised over and over. An issue is the fact that region B brings in and raises the most money, and, yet, we get the lowest allocation of budget.
Linda Verwey (Ward 86): The tariffs are what they are. People are going to be upset with them. It is going to citizens in a poorer bracket. It is going to get rough, especially on the middle class. It is going to affect your whole salary. The food prices are going to impact their household.
