UJ students find sense of community in Future Forward Fun Run

The UJ Future Forward Fun Run, in partnership with Discovery Vitality, brought newcomers, community spirit, and vital fundraising for students in need.

Discovery Vitality, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg (UJ), brought a new wave of excitement to campus life with the launch of the newly branded UJ Future Forward Fun Run, held on September 20.

The event, infused with energy and a strong sense of community, drew many newcomers to the fun run, while also serving a bigger purpose. The fun run forms part of UJ’s broader fundraising campaign, aimed at students who cannot afford funding – those who do not qualify for full government financial aid.

For students like Giotsione Kekana, the run was more than just a race. “What I like about it, was the rewards of the race, as the initiative is tied in with Vitality’s mission of promoting health and fitness. The feeling of community as well. You never felt like you were running alone.”

Kekana admitted she had not trained extensively, but leaned on her natural ability and passion for running. “Because I am a student, I have not really prepared a lot, but I have been trying to maintain that balance. I run quiet often, but I need to exercise it to my full potential.”

Participating for the first time, she described the experience as amazing, and an initiative she looks forward to doing again.
