De La Salle Holy Cross College appoint new head boy and head girl
Grade 11 students Lisa Hawthorne and Christopher Jacobs have been appointed the new head girl and head boy for DE LA Salle Holy Cross College, and plan to make it an even more welcoming and inclusive place.
Lisa Hawthorne and Christopher Jacobs are the newly appointed head girl and head boy of De La Salle Holy Cross College.
These Grade 11 learners were elected into these roles after votes were cast by grades 10 to 12, as well as staff, with the votes of Grade 11s counting for two votes each.
For the pair, being voted into these roles by their peers, especially their grade, is something they see as an honour.

Their appointment was announced at a recent assembly, a moment they described as insane and overwhelming.
In his time at school, being head boy was never a thought Christopher had, with him only really considering the idea last year.
“Before that, I didn’t really know what being a head boy would entail, but last year, seeing all the positive changes the head boy was able to make, I wanted to do that too.”

For Lisa, however, it was her playschool teacher who saw it in her to be a head girl one day.
“I definitely always wanted to be in a leadership role at the school. I just didn’t know in what capacity.”
The pair defines the straits of a good leader as someone who is steadfast in their morals.
“A lot of people will lean on you, so, if you don’t have strong foundation, you will not be able to support them,” said Christopher.
He added that one also has to be kind, respectful, and be able to show up for other people, as the role is a service one. Lisa added that a leader also needs to be relatable, have empathy, and be assertive.

Through her role, Lisa hopes to continue to cultivate a respectful and inclusive environment at the school, as a way of making everyone feel welcome. Christopher hopes to make everyone feel seen and valued, while helping them find their own unique role within the school.
The heads want to encourage their school community to stay true to who they are.

“I think we’re in a time now where everyone just wants to fit in, and be liked by everybody, but I think it is more important to be who you are as a person. The people who matter will love you for that,” said Christopher.
Lisa echoed his sentiments, also sharing that learners should do what they love, and love what they do.
