Vehicle loses control in wet conditions on Lily Road, Northcliff
The first rains of the season turned Lily Road into a hazard zone today, with a vehicle skidding off a bend and crashing into a wall.
A motor vehicle accident took place on Lily Road, near Korpos Street in Northcliff, in the early morning of September 29, after a Toyota Fortuner lost control in the wet conditions and crashed into a wall. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to SCP Security managing director, Clive Maher, the crash happened as the vehicle approached a bend along the road.
“With the first rains of the season arriving, the road surface had become unusually slick — not only from the rain but also from pollen and fallen leaves mixing with dirt that had settled over the past several months,” he said.

“It becomes literally an ice rink. When the driver realised he was going a little too fast before the corner and applied the brakes, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) kicked in. The car just continued straight, mounted the pavement, and went into the wall.”

He urged motorists to take extra caution in the coming days, warning that the first rains often make roads particularly hazardous. “Drivers need to slow down, stay off main roads where possible, and anticipate sharp bends or sudden braking before it’s too late,” he said.
Authorities are reminding road users that wet weather, combined with seasonal debris on the tar, can dramatically increase stopping distances and reduce traction, especially on winding routes such as Lily Road.
