Cresta exhibition unites Linden organisations against gender-based violence during local activism drive

Linden safety partners launch a powerful three-day exhibition at Cresta, rallying residents to stand with victims of gender-based violence.

In a united show of solidarity during the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, the Linden CPF, Linden SAPS, the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network (CCIN), and the Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative (VCSI) opened a public exhibition at Cresta Shopping Centre this week, calling residents to confront the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) head-on.

From 28 to 30 November, CCIN-VCSI — supported by Beagle Watch Security and SCP Security — is hosting an information desk and display that shines a spotlight on the work being done to assist victims of domestic and gender-based violence. The exhibit forms part of a broader effort to raise awareness, offer support, and connect community members with services available to those affected by abuse.

Mahmood (Bhaai) Cassim, head of VCSI, said the campaign offers a crucial moment to strengthen community engagement. “The 16 Days of Activism is a critical platform for us to amplify our efforts in supporting vulnerable citizens,” he noted. “We invite citizens to visit our exhibition and learn more about the work we do to protect and empower those affected by violence and abuse.”

Shoppers visiting Cresta are invited to participate in a vibrant ‘tapestry of art’ installation, where messages of kindness, hope and resilience are being added throughout the weekend. Community members may also purchase artworks, with proceeds going directly toward victim support initiatives. Many of the pieces on display have been created by individuals who have experienced gender-based violence themselves, adding a deeply personal and moving layer to the event.

CCIN-VCSI expressed appreciation to Cresta Shopping Centre Management for making the space available, and to the Linden CPF, SAPS and Linden Meander for helping shape what organisers describe as a ‘superb exhibition’ driven by community spirit.

The exhibition will remain open on November 30 from 10:00 to 14:00, and organisers are urging residents to come through, browse the artwork, engage with volunteers and show their support.

According to Cassim, community response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. “A lot of the artwork speaks volumes, especially from victims who have been subjected to GBV, and the encouraging aspect is that people are coming forward,” he said.
