Emmarentia’s Hofmeyer Drive is eroding fast

ERA chairperson says the issue has been logged for over a year, with more than 10 escalations and growing risks to infrastructure, motorists and pedestrians.

The erosion on Hofmeyer Drive in Emmarentia is becoming precarious, according to Emmarentia Residents Association (ERA) chairperson Saber Manjoo.

Hofmeyer Road follows the course of the Montgomery Spruit. Heavy rains early last year caused the waterway to burst its banks, and since then, the damage on the road has progressively worsened.

Over time, the banks of the spruit have continued to erode and encroach on the road, putting both infrastructure and public safety at increasing risk.

Manjoo raised concerns about exposed cables at a section of the road, saying that if they are damaged, there is no indication of what impact it could have on the electricity supply.

Questions have been sent to the JRA regarding what will be done and how the situation was allowed to get to this point. Their response will be updated once received.
