Fairland Cottesloe Run Walk Crawl fundraiser draws local community support for MOTH Cottesloe Homes

Residents gathered in Cottesloe for a lively Run Walk Crawl fundraiser supporting MOTH Cottesloe Homes through a day of community participation and shared purpose.

Running, strolling, or even crawling their way to a good cause, residents and visitors turned out in Cottesloe for a spirited Run Walk Crawl fundraiser in support of the MOTH Cottesloe Homes.

The event, which started and ended at MESCA Cottages in Fairland, drew participants of all ages and fitness levels, with even dogs joining in on the action.

Laurie Claase of MOTH Cottesloe Homes explained that the concept is rooted in history.

“This 2.4-km format comes from an old military fitness test dating back to World War I, where soldiers had 12 minutes to move between trenches about 2.4km apart,” Claase said.

He said the event has since been reshaped to serve a broader purpose.

“As veterans, we’ve decided to turn it into something meaningful — a way to remember and honour those who didn’t come home, while also creating a fun, family-oriented day,” he said.

Now in its fourth year, Claase added that the initiative continues to grow, strengthening community ties and encouraging both fitness and historical awareness.

“It’s about bringing families together, encouraging exercise, and helping younger generations understand our history, while also giving back to older veterans,” he said.
