Crime stat release shows Brixton robberies dip, while Linden and Sophiatown crimes continue rising
Crime statistics revealed Brixton robberies declined slightly, while Linden recorded increases in theft and shoplifting, and Sophiatown remained among Gauteng’s highest-ranked stations for drug-related crimes.
The fourth quarter crime statistics for the 2025/26 financial year, between January and March 2026, show mixed results across several Johannesburg police stations.
At Brixton Police Station, common robbery cases dropped from 67 cases recorded during the same period last year to 62 this year. This is a decrease of five cases, or 7.5%. Despite the drop, Brixton still ranks among the highest stations for common robbery, sitting 22nd nationally and 10th in Gauteng.

Linden Police Station saw an increase in theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles. Cases increased from 57 between January and March 2025 to 61 this year, a rise of four cases or 7%. Linden is now ranked 20th nationally and 13th provincially for vehicle theft.
Shoplifting cases in Linden also increased slightly. Reported incidents went up from 52 cases last year to 55 this year, reflecting a 5.8% increase. The station is ranked 27th nationally and 12th provincially for shoplifting.

Meanwhile, Sophiatown Police Station continued recording high levels of drug-related crime. Cases rose from 310 between January and March 2025 to 319 during the same period this year. The increase of nine cases represents a 2.9% rise. Sophiatown is now ranked second in Gauteng and 29th nationally for drug-related crimes.
While some crime categories showed small improvements, the latest figures continue highlighting ongoing concerns around robbery, vehicle theft, shoplifting, and drug-related crime in parts of the city.
