Dance is my escape: Meet Northcliff teen talent, Lily Bradley

Inspired by her professional dancer mother, 16-year-old Lily Bradley is already winning festivals and dreaming of Blackpool.

At just 16 years old, Northcliff High School learner Lily Bradley is already proving that passion, discipline and determination can take you far, both on and off the dance floor.

A dancer at Northcliff-based EA Dance Studio, Lily has been dancing for as long as she can remember. With a professional dancer mother who also teaches her, dance has always been part of her life.
“I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t dancing,” she said.

Despite her love for dance, Lily plans to study accounting after school, describing dance as her ‘refreshing escape’ from everyday pressures. For her, movement is more than performance – it is emotional expression and healing. “If you’re feeling angry, sad or happy, you can dance. It always heals something in me.”

Lily trains between 10 and 11 hours a week, taking classes in contemporary, hip hop, acro and Latin dance. Contemporary remains her favourite style because of the emotion behind each performance.
Her proudest achievement so far was performing a jazz routine to Michael Jackson at the Legends festival last year, where she won. She said success comes from relentless preparation and repetition to overcome nerves on stage.

Although she still hopes to dance internationally, Lily already dreams of one day performing at Blackpool Dance Festival – one of the world’s most prestigious ballroom dance events, where her mother once placed third. Beyond dance, Lily also plays tennis, but said dance offers a unique sense of freedom and confidence. Her message to other young people still searching for their passion is simple: “It’s never too late. Just find the thing that resonates with you.”
