For the grades 5 to 7 girls, it was an experience they are unlikely to forget anytime soon. The launch celebrated an exciting step forward for inclusive sport in South Africa, as Lions Cricket and DP World announced an expanded partnership to support and grow women’s blind cricket. The event, held ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Kingdom, brought together players, cricket officials, sponsors, and guests to celebrate the team’s journey and future.

Adding energy and excitement to the occasion were the APPS marimba players, whose lively performance helped set the tone for the day. The girls also had the chance to meet several special guests, including Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright and Proteas cricketer Ryan Rickelton. “Our girls were incredibly excited to be part of such a meaningful occasion,” the school said

While the spotlight was firmly on the launch of the new women’s blind cricket team, the APPS marimba girls played their own important role in the celebration, bringing music, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles to the event. Their performance was warmly received by guests and served as another example of how music can bring people together and add something special to memorable occasions.
