Clearwater Harley Owners Group brings Christmas in July to Emmarentia’s Eventide Home for the Aged
Months of fundraising culminated in a Christmas in July celebration as Clearwater Harley Owners Group spent time with and donated to the residents of Eventide Home, continuing a tradition of giving that has spanned two decades.
While many organisations focus their community work around Mandela Day, members of the Clearwater Chapter South Africa – Harley Owners Group (HOG) believe generosity should have no expiry date.
Their annual Christmas in July initiative brought festive cheer to Eventide Home for the Aged in Emmarentia on July 18, where members delivered donations and spent time with residents after months of fundraising.
The initiative has become a hallmark of the chapter’s calendar, with members selecting a different charity each year before raising funds in the months leading up to July. Cornell Grewar, of the Clearwater Chapter, said the tradition has been running for about 20 years. “Every year we identify a charity, spend the months beforehand raising funds, and then we come together to support that organisation in whatever way we can.”
This year’s beneficiary was Eventide Home, after members with ties to the facility highlighted its needs. “We were very fortunate that members involved with Eventide told us about the need here. Once we heard about it, it was an easy decision to make this our chosen charity for the year.”

Over the years, the chapter has supported a wide range of causes, including children’s charities, cancer organisations, and animal welfare groups, ensuring that a different community benefits each year. For Grewar, the message behind the initiative extends far beyond a single day of service. “If you can help people in your everyday life, that’s fantastic. As a chapter, we make sure we do at least three or four charity events every year, because we’re fortunate to enjoy what we do as a hobby. If we can spend a few hours helping others along the way, then that’s the right thing to do.”
By combining their shared passion for motorcycles with a long-standing commitment to community service, the Clearwater Harley Owners Group continues to show that the road to making a difference is travelled throughout the year – not only on Mandela Day.
