Blanket donation marks beginning of long-term support for Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital

A donation of 60 blankets has marked the beginning of a broader partnership between Gauteng Shincheonji Volunteers and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, with more community projects already in the pipeline.

A winter blanket donation has laid the foundation for what organisers hope will become a lasting partnership between Gauteng Shincheonji Volunteers and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.

The volunteer group handed over 60 blankets to the hospital on July 31, with another 60 expected to be delivered later this month as part of its annual winter outreach campaign. The blankets were donated through the support of the Morningside Rotary Club.

Unlike previous years, when blankets were distributed directly to members of the public, this year’s initiative was directed to the hospital after volunteers identified a growing need within the facility.

Leader of Gauteng Shincheonji Volunteers Xihluke Mabasa said the organisation wanted to ensure its support reached where it could make the greatest impact. To ensure the blankets reach those who need them most, the donation was handed over to the hospital’s linen management team, which will oversee distribution across various wards. However, the blanket drive is only the beginning of the organisation’s plans.

Mabasa said the volunteers intend to continue supporting the hospital through additional projects, including repainting parts of the facility, donating toys for newborns and young patients, and establishing a vegetable garden, subject to approval.

He explained that Rahima Moosa had been identified as a priority because of the needs volunteers observed at the hospital, and expressed hope that the partnership would continue well beyond the winter months. The organisation also hopes its efforts will encourage businesses, community organisations, and other stakeholders to contribute towards improving public healthcare facilities through similar collaborative initiatives.
