Tuks destroy UJ

AUCKLAND PARK – Tuks destroyed UJ in the sixth round battle at UJ Stadium.

The Varsity Cup is now in its 7th round, and it has seen various ups and downs, especially for a team like UJ.

The team from Joburg had the difficult task of taking on Tuks, one of the top teams in the Cup.

On 16 March the crowd gathered at UJ Stadium in anticipation of the showdown and UJ was looking fit and fresh and ready to try and take the win.

First blood was drawn by Tuks who scored the first try and the score remained 5–0 for Tuks till the half-time break.

In the changing rooms the teams were discussing tactics and Tuks chose the winning tactic.

The Pretoria-based team flew ahead as the score started hovering on the 18–0 mark when Joshua Stander landed his first kick of the match.

Stander made a move again in the 68th minute when he saw a gap and he threw a dummy pass before splitting the UJ defence open like the Red Sea.

The night came to a close as Tuks’ Andrew Beerwinkel scored the final try that made the score an impressive 34–0 for the away team.

UJ’s next match will take place on 23 March at Madibaz Stadium against the team with home ground advantage, FNB NMMU.
