UJ’s captain, Thato Letsoso, will not be travelling with the team but they believe they will be able to take their A-game to the tournament.
Letsoso will be with Banyana Banyana in Port Elizabeth competing in the Cosafa Cup. Regardless of her absence, she had some advice for the team.
“I think it is important not to look too far ahead when it comes to tournaments such as this,” she advised. “We must just take baby steps and concentrate on each match as it happens.”
Eight of South Africa’s best university women’s football teams will travel to North-West University for a weekend of fiery football action from 20 to 22 September.
The eight teams will be divided into two pools and will play three round-robin matches on 20 and 21 September.
The top two in each pool will qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals with the final being played on 27 September, the same date as the men’s Varsity Football final.
Letsoso believes that due to the intense schedule, the biggest hurdle during the tournament for teams will be managing fatigue and injuries.
She believed she could. So she did. #MondayMotivation
