Northcliff Bowl is ready

NORTHCLIFF –During the lockdown, some tenpin bowlers made use of various items around their houses to construct their own pins, balls and alleyways to play with at home.

Many countries have opened their tenpin bowling centres as lockdown regulations have eased, and Northcliff Bowl is ready to welcome the public when the time comes for South Africa.

As the country entered lockdown Level 3 and professional sport was given the go-ahead, Northcliff Bowl looked at how it can make the non-contact sport even safer.”We have taken many of the precautions they [other countries] have used as guidelines for our protocols,” venue manager, Carrie Robertson said.”In my opinion bowls probably has a very low risk of a guest or staff member to get the virus [thanks] to the nature of tenpin bowling.”

Some of the measures Northcliff Bowl has taken include:

  • Every second lane will be used to make social distancing easier. If people are from the same household there is a max of five people per lane
  • Hand sanitiser available at different points around the centre
  • Gloves will be made available if guests would like to use them
  • Bowling balls will be collected from reception for the size and weight the customer would like and cleaned after each use
  • Two masks will be supplied to each staff member, and will be available for purchase for guests if they wish
  • The temperature of staff and each guest will be taken upon arrival
  • Surfaces will be cleaned after each guest use
  • Socks will be available for purchase
  • Floors and surfaces will be cleaned regularly
  • Booking will be necessary by telephone or email
  • Card payments will be encouraged and card machines will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes after each use.

“We have heard from many of our league bowlers and they are very eager and excited to get back to the lanes,” Robertson added. “We are all very grateful to all the league bowlers for what they have done for Northcliff Bowl, from donations for staff to checking in on members of staff.” During the lockdown, some tenpin bowlers made use of various items around their houses to construct their own pins, balls and alleyways to play with at home.
