Douglas Mumba Tennis Academy to return soon

NORTHCLIFF – Local tennis academy to open again soon.

The Douglas Mumba Tennis Academy will return to the courts at Northcliff Country Tennis Club soon.

Since lockdown Level 3 regulations were amended and social and club tennis was allowed in June, coach Douglas Mumba has been preparing the way for his players to return safely. “I am finishing my online course for a Covid-19 compliance licence and I think I will be done soon,” he said.

“I am very excited to start tennis again. We have been away since March so what is that, almost five months. I know the players and their parents are also excited to return to tennis.”

This will not be without due diligence and adherence of Tennis South Africa’s safety protocols.

“When we go back it will be very safe. Everyone will have to wear face masks when not playing, players will have to bring their own tennis balls and not touch each other’s. There will be sanitising and I will take registers and the temperature of everyone when they arrive.”

Furthermore, while up to four players are allowed per court, Mumba wants to only host lessons with one or two players at a time.

“It is easier to keep social distancing with fewer players and only one or two players per court. There will be no squad training.”

Mumba said two other coaches had already resumed training with their students at the club.
