Football that changes lives in Northcliff
NORTHCLIFF – FC Real Soccer Club shares on how they change the lives of underprivileged children and how they need your help to further do so.
FC Real Soccer Club has more depth to it than just teaching young footballers how to kick the ball.
Founded by an ex-professional football player, Beavan Bowers who represented the country’s national team, the club started with just 10 players in 2014 and now boasts more than 130 players.
Bowers had always had the deep-seeded desire to get involved in coaching as he was fortunate enough to have received quality coaching and great mentorship in his career. According to the vice-chairperson of the club, Craig Solomons, Bowers’ passion grew when he coached underprivileged children in various communities.

The club was given birth through this passion to develop children who have a desire for the beautiful game of football. “We have made it a priority to care of many underprivileged kids as we believe that every child should be afforded the opportunity to play soccer, regardless of their parent’s financial status,” said Solomons, adding that many of their players have incredible potential and passion for football with a few players being fully sponsored by FC Real SA.

The club has trained at Northcliff cricket grounds since 2018 and due to Covid-19 the facility was not taken care of. “The grass was knee high, change rooms were vandalised and some vagrants had also made the place an undesirable place,” added Solomons. The club aims to ensure the venue is a safe haven where boys aged five to 19 years old can express themselves while at the same time understand the fundamentals of teamwork, determination, focus and development. They have since started renovating and making improvements to the facility to make sure that this was all possible.
“We want the place to be a world-class sports facility within reach of thousands of young boys and to keep them busy.”
According to him, children need physical training because it was important for their growth and development and the busier they were, the less they would become involved in negative things.
In recent weeks, the club’s committee members, family members, some players and parents have really pulled their weight to get the facility in shape for the U13 to U19 teams whose Gauteng Development Promotional League 2021 kicked off about a week ago. In this league, the club will play against Gauteng’s best youth teams.

To make sure this season goes its best for the players, the club is still in need of help with donations, materials and manpower to renovate the change rooms, toilets, clubhouse and restaurant. The fields also needing regular maintenance.
