University of Johannesburg’s School of Tourism and Hospitality showed off the art of fine dining – and wining – on Friday 30 May.
Representatives from Idiom Wines (from the Bottega Family Wine estate in Stellenbosch) were at the Waterford Restaurant at UJ to showcase their remarkable wines to the appreciative diners.
“Wine speaks to all the senses: the eyes behold the color, tone, and shade; the nose, the bouquet, the fingers and lips caress the cool crystal; the ears delight in the subtle swishing of the liquid; the tongue rejoices in the reward of a rich harvest,” Alberto Bottega said, quoting Mary Lou Posch to start off the evening.
“Or to put it simply, tonight is about eating foodie things on a plate, and drinking grapey things in a bottle,” he added amidst chuckling.
Wines were paired with the superb food served and made by University of Johannesburg’s students and staff, and diners visibly relaxed and laughed merrily as the evening went on.
“It was fantastic,” Helen Krige, one of the diners and a lecturer at University of Johannesburg said.
“I come here as often as I can and it’s always wonderful.”
