Local resident wins graffiti award
ALLEN'S NEK – "Clean" artist Charles Keylock can move forward after win.
Charles Keylock (29) won the graffiti category award at the Sprite Uncontainable Talent search in Diepkloof, Soweto, on 2 August.
The competition featured different aspects of the hip hop culture, and prizes were awarded for dancing, emceeing, graffiti, basketball and the best fan.
Also known as ‘Riot’, Keylock resides in Allen’s Nek.
“I have been working hard and putting a lot into the graffiti culture,” he said.
“The win definitely helps me move forward.”
He describes his graffiti as “clean”, and him being one of the cleanest graffiti artists around.
“I am neat. You could say that I am a perfectionist. I won’t leave stuff that drips.”
Keylock and the other winners will go on a free trip to New York, in the United States of America (USA) in February next year.
“Sprite is committed to providing a platform and audience for youth to unleash their talent and express their true selves,” said Hlukani Rikhotso, senior brand manager for Sprite.
“The brand has been instrumental in the development of hip hop in the country and the fusion of the different hip hop elements that are a celebration of the lifestyle.”
