Tasty WasteNots – a life of wholesome goodness
MELVILLE – Audiences get a taste of organic life, one page at a time.
A night spent talking and reading about great tasting, healthy foods was shared at Love Books.
Chef Jason Whitehead and nutritional therapist, Sally-Ann Creed, wrote Tasty WasteNots and on 16 November, a book launch was held to an audience of culinary enthusiasts.

The night was accompanied by great organic champagne and delectable foods for those in attendance. Whitehead led a discussion about the book and talked about how one can save money and still create great tasting wholesome food that is not only low in carbohydrates but sugar too.
He noted how after his lifestyle change, he struggled to let go of peanut butter and two-minute noodles that helped him as a young chef in training.

The book contains recipes for breakfast, lunch, supper and everything in between.
Whitehead said that he had prepared every meal in the book and that his healthy new fascination with organic food has changed his life completely. In his talk, he stressed that this book was not to punt diets like Paleo or Banting.

“I do not believe in diets, I believe in eating from the earth and I know that if it grows from the earth you can eat it.”
He has learned to steer clear of processed foods and highlighted a concept called resistant starch. “Cold rice and cold potatoes, if cooked the night before and refrigerated, have a completely different reaction in the body.”

The audience shared that although the book did not have any mention of starches, they were not left wanting more as it managed to please their eager palates.
The night ended with countless laughs and a newfound love for organic eating.
