Crafting with kids: Create an owl with an acorn
Celebrate Spring by helping your child make these acorn owls. They are super fun and a great craft for toddlers and preschoolers.

It’s officially spring and that means more time outdoors. Children love to play in the garden and collect items from Mother Nature. It is a treasure hunt, as they discover beautiful leaves, pinecones and acorns. This acorn owl craft is a real “hoot”, easy to make, and, best of all, thrifty.
What you need
- Acorns
- Felt scraps (or colored paper)
- Small googly eyes
- Glue (craft glue or glue gun)
- Scissors
How to make it
- Help your child collect a handful of large acorns.
- Using child-friendly scissors, help your child cut out the beak and wings from the felt scraps.
- Glue the body parts onto acorn.
- Using a glue gun or craft glue, stick on two googly eyes.
- Make a little hat (from the acorn capule).
- Find a few small twigs and some real leaves and stick them along with your acorn owl on a piece of felt.
