A night filled with talent

Reddford House Northcliff proves its got talent and they know just what to do with it.

The best way to put a spotlight on the talent within a school’s wall is to put on a show.

For one night only, Reddford House Northcliff treated audiences to the musical extravaganza that is Reddford’s Got Talent.

Inspired by the movie The Greatest Showman, faculty head of creative arts and Grade 10 to 12 visual art teacher, Toni Powell-Venter together with her team organised the whole show.

“The showcase’s aim was to show that no matter who you are and what your talent is there is a space for you. Especially at this school, where you are inclined to believe that you are an individual and you belong no matter your talents,” said Powell-Venter.

Over 100 children auditioned and over 50 acts performed on the night. The play, which had performances from Grade 1s to matric, incorporated both the ideas of the young performers as well as the movie it was inspired by.

“When we put together the show, we made sure the children knew from the start that this was not about the individual,” said Powell-Venter. She saw it as important to have the theme be one that celebrated uniqueness. Adding that outside of school the children will need to go out in the world being their authentic selves.

“But they need to find their community in spaces they feel their individuality is welcomed,” she said. She also found it equally as important that they were the sort of people who made others feel welcome and, in that way, they have the ability to form a community of their design.

Powell-Venter hoped people left the show feeling inspired, especially the children who formed part of the audience, “I wish they leave thinking, ‘wow, I want to be part of this next year and come to the auditions next year with confidence.”
