Water relief pours in

Residents were grateful to receive the water after a prolonged dry spell

As the water crisis continues to leave taps dry in some residential areas, more Good Samaritans have come on board to help affected residents.

On Saturday (July 16), members of the Umtshezi Fire Protection Association (UFPA) provided two vehicles to distribute water to homes.

“Our units were a drop in the ocean compared to the crisis the community is facing, and several trips were made to transport water to the area. It is very concerning to see such a water crisis plaguing people, especially in a lower-income community where the luxury of JoJo tanks is a dream. People are on alert and someone is always waiting in their yards for a sign of a tanker, but some days it never comes. Water is such a basic necessity in life. Service delivery has sadly failed the residents of these affected communities,” commented UFPA chairman Warren Blaker.

The UFPA thanks Silondile Khumalo from Kusini Water Estcourt for supplying bottled water.

“We would also like to thank the Al-Imdaad Foundation for assisting us with an additional skid unit from Ancoman. This unit has been a major boost to our fire-fighting arsenal,” added Mr Blaker.
