Rotarians call the shots at Family Health Day

Other services rendered on the day were testing and screenings for HIV, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, diabetes and hypertension, blood pressure and sugar checks and family planning.

Residents of Madadeni gathered at the Madadeni Majuba TVET College to receive free childhood immunisations from the Department of Health, as part of the fifth annual Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) held on October 3.

Majuba Rotary Club Secretary, Clara du Plessis said RFHD is hosted by all Rotarians across South Africa during the month of October and focuses on elevating polio amongst children.

Other services rendered on the day were testing and screenings for HIV, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, diabetes and hypertension, blood pressure and sugar checks and family planning.

Children also received measles inoculations, polio drops and vitamin A inoculations.

“I believe the Family Health Day is important, as it helps people from less privileged areas to have a proper medical check-up done. The people from these areas do not always have the finances nor means of getting these check-ups done. By us offering these services for free, we can help them determine certain sicknesses in order for them to be treated accordingly,” concluded du Plessis.
