Multi-agency operation targets cable theft
A coordinated operation aims to curb cable theft and protect critical infrastructure in Vryheid.
A coordinated operation aimed at curbing cable theft and other illegal activities is being planned in Vryheid following repeated incidents that have left parts of the town without electricity for extended periods.
Targeted operation planned
According to information circulated by organisers, the operation comes in response to ongoing cable theft, which has resulted in frequent power outages, sometimes lasting from several hours to a number of days.
The AbaQulusi Local Municipality has reportedly identified the days and times when the thefts are most likely to occur and is planning a targeted operation to apprehend those responsible.
Community support requested
Community members have been asked to support the operation by increasing their visibility during the planned operational periods, which are expected to take place from late evening into the early hours of the morning.
Broader operational focus
While the primary focus will be on combating cable theft, the operation will also target illegal squatter settlements, illegal land invasions and the monitoring of heavy motor vehicles travelling through the area.
Organisers say the initiative will be carried out through a coordinated multi-agency approach involving various role players to protect municipal infrastructure, enforce the law and enhance public safety.
Residents urged to remain vigilant
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the relevant law enforcement authorities and not to confront suspects themselves.
