Residents report long-running sewage problem

A serious sewage overflow has been reported in the large open field behind John Parks and Fyfe streets, near the La Brie Retirement Village.

Residents in the area claim the problem has been ongoing for about two years.

Shawn Vermaak and Aasiya Bhigjee of the Newcastle District and Residents’ Forum visited the site yesterday morning (August 17) and have committed to working towards resolving the issue.

Matter escalated to municipality

The matter has been reported to the municipality and was acknowledged by Musa Ngobo of the Communications Department.

Ngobo said the issue would be escalated to the relevant municipal department for attention.
