Dundee’s Farm Doctor committee denies financial benefit claims
The committee overseeing the Dundee Farm Doctor land compensation process has rejected allegations that its members benefited financially from the process.
The long-running Farm Doctor land compensation saga continues, with the committee denying claims that its nine members have benefited financially and deliberately prolonged the process.
The dispute stems from the forced removal of residents from Farm Doctor, an area outside Dundee, to Sibongile during the 1960s.
Vusa Mthembu, speaking on behalf of the Farm Doctor committee, challenged those claiming to represent the community to provide evidence that committee members had received money in connection with the process.
“Those claiming to represent the community would do well to show proof that committee members have received monetary rewards,” Mthembu said.
He also questioned the legitimacy of a meeting held by those raising concerns about the matter, saying the meeting’s records had not been signed.
“Their meeting, which was a bogus meeting to discuss the issue, was not even signed. This means that, had there been any incidents at that meeting, no one would have been held responsible,” he said.
Mthembu maintained that the committee operated transparently and had originally been established in 1998 to represent 843 beneficiaries.
He added that criminal charges of crimen injuria had been laid against people whom he accused of attempting to damage the committee’s reputation.
