Community joins forces to tackle long-running sewage problem
A specialised truck for jetting and clearing blocked drains was used to address the problem.
Ward 12 DA candidate and community activist Frikkie Kruger joined forces with residents and a private company to tackle a persistent sewage problem in town.
On Monday, October 5, Kruger went out to Ruby Gailey Drive where a blocked drain had been causing overflowing sewage and ongoing sanitation concerns for approximately eight months.
Community support makes intervention possible
After appealing to the community for sponsorships and assistance, Kruger and the group managed to secure the services of a private company equipped with a specialised truck for jetting and clearing blocked drains.
The company assisted at a discounted rate, allowing the team to tackle the blockage and address the overflowing sewage.
Kruger thanks residents and sponsors
Kruger expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed towards the effort, saying the community’s support had made it possible to address the problem.
The intervention highlights how residents, community activists and local businesses can work together to respond to urgent service delivery and sanitation challenges.
More problem areas to be visited
The group plans to continue visiting other areas affected by overflowing sewage as part of an ongoing community-driven effort to address sanitation problems.
Kruger said the initiative would continue as they identify problem areas and find practical solutions, with the assistance of residents and local businesses.
