Mechanical breakdown triggers water-shedding in Ladysmith
A mechanical breakdown at the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works has resulted in a drop in bulk water levels.
Residents in several areas of Alfred Duma Local Municipality will experience scheduled water interruptions following a mechanical breakdown at the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works.
The municipality has announced that the mechanical breakdown has resulted in a drop in bulk water levels, forcing them to implement water-shedding to manage the available supply.
Water-shedding to begin tonight
According to a notice issued by the municipality, water-shedding will start today (October 12) and will take place daily between 20:00 and 05:00 until further notice.
The measure is intended to manage the reduced bulk water supply while the municipality addresses the situation at the water treatment facility.
Areas to be affected
The scheduled water interruptions will affect several residential and industrial areas across Ladysmith. These include Steadville, Egerton, Observation Hill, Mkhamba Gardens, Model Kloof and Limit Hill.
The Danskraal Industrial Area, as well as the St Chad’s and 2000 areas, will also be affected by the water-shedding programme.
Residents and businesses in these areas are urged to prepare for the nightly interruptions and make the necessary arrangements to ensure that essential water needs are met during the affected hours.
Residents urged to store water
The municipality has called on community members to store sufficient water for essential household use before the scheduled interruptions begin.
Residents are also encouraged to use water sparingly to help manage the available supply during this period.
Municipality to provide further updates
The municipality apologises to residents for the inconvenience caused by the mechanical breakdown and the resulting water interruptions.
Further updates will be communicated as new information becomes available.
Residents are encouraged to remain alert to official municipal announcements regarding developments at the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works and any changes to the water-shedding schedule.
